Financial controller Atherton to replace Alastair Murray

Article comments

Dairy Crest's director of financial control Tom Atherton has been appointed as the company's finance director.

He replaces Alastair Murray who has been Dairy Crest's finance director for nearly a decade and is leaving to pursue other business interests. Atherton is scheduled take-up the role on 23 May, following the publication of Dairy Crest's preliminary results.

He has been at Dairy Crest for the last seven years, four of which were spent in his current capacity as director of financial control. Prior to joining the company, he held finance roles with Logica and Thorn.

In a trading statement, the company said that with effect from 1 April, it will consolidate under a single structure that will eliminate duplication and bring about £5 million in cost savings.

Anthony Fry, chairman of Dairy Crest, said, "The reorganisation announced today continues the decisive changes made by the Dairy Crest management team over recent years to optimise the company's position in a competitive sector."

Dairy Crest also announced that it had retained its contract to supply liquid milk to supermarket chain Sainsbury's. The new supply contract would run from 2014 to 2017.
