London-listed defence, transport and energy systems supplier Ultra Electronics has appointed Mary Waldner as its group finance director.

In a statement on Thursday, the company said Waldner would replace Paul Dean, who is taking-up the position of CFO at Rio Tinto’s diamond subsidiary. While Dean is scheduled to leave Ultra on 31 March, the date Waldner would join is yet to be finalised.

She is currently the group finance director of QinetiQ. Prior to this, Waldner, a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), was the group financial controller at 3i. She has also held key finance roles at British Airways, Vauxhall Motors and Coopers & Lybrand Management Consultancy Services.

Commenting on her appointment, Rakesh Sharma, chief executive of Ultra, said, “I am very pleased that Ultra has been able to appoint Mary Waldner to succeed Paul Dean. She has a broad range of experience in a number of sectors and an excellent track record of achievement.”

“We look forward to welcoming Mary into the group. The board would like to take the opportunity to thank Paul Dean for his contribution as an outstanding group finance director over the past four years,” Sharma added.
