DIY group Kingfisher named Karen Witts, a Vodafone finance executive, as the new group finance director at Europe’s largest home improvement retailer on Monday.

Witts, who will succeed FD Kevin O’Byrne, will join the board in October 2012.

Currently Vodafone's chief financial officer for Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Asia Pacific, Witts has held senior finance posts at BT Group, Grand Metropolitan, Mars and The Observer newspaper.

In February O'Byrne was named CEO of Kingfisher's B&Q division in February.

Ian Cheshire, Kingfisher’s group CEO said Witts’ “appointment will complete the group executive team at Kingfisher”.

“It is a strong, diverse senior management team, ready for the next phase of our growth plan under Kingfisher’s ‘Creating the Leader’ programme’,” Cheshire added.

Witts is a director of two Vodafone subsidiaries which are publicly listed on the Johannesburg and Nairobi stock exchanges.
